PLABs + AMC 1→ Do You Still Need PESCI?

I recently got this great question:

👉 If I pass AMC MCQ, PLAB 1 & 2, and OET, then apply via the Competent Authority Pathway. Do I still need PESCI? And will my job chances in Australia improve (RMO/HMO roles, level 2–3 supervision)?

✅ The answer:

Hospital jobs (RMO/HMO): You don’t need PESCI. That exam is only required for GP roles.

With PLAB + AMC + OET, your chances of securing hospital jobs increase a lot. Hospitals recognise this combo and you’ll be more competitive for RMO/HMO positions under supervision.

GP jobs: If you get a GP position, then PESCI is mandatory. But the advantage is that after 1–2 years working as a GP, you’ll become eligible for general registration, which makes the pathway much smoother. (Please check this with official sources. This is from my friend’s experience as a GP who did PLABs)

PLAB helps mainly for hospital recruitment. it doesn’t directly boost GP chances, but it can definitely help you land your first hospital job.

💬 In short: For hospital pathways → no PESCI. For GP → PESCI required.

Hope that clears things up for everyone!
